Review: Soap & Glory Hand Food Hand Cream
When I see Soap & Glory products I can't help but consider them gimmicky with their "hey, I'm talking to you" product descriptions, all those overemphasized WORDS in CAPITALS and the excited! punctuation! However, when I saw their Hand Food Hand Cream was highly rated on Sephora and that it would help me get free shipping, I decided to give it a try. My love for trying new hand creams (especially those with donkey milk!) outweighed my fear that "The Most Astonishing Hand Cream Ever?" was friends with the video named "You've Gotta Watch This!" and its cousin "You Won't Believe What Happens Next!"
Unfortunately, the scent of this hand cream is super perfumey and really rubs me the wrong way. It reminds me of cheap fragrance and, even after a year, I'm still not done using it up. I apply it infrequently because the unrelenting odor clings to my skin, hair and clothing. The ultra pink packaging also makes me avoid taking it into public so I only use it at home. If I apply before bedtime I'm sure to spread it to my pillow case and sheets so there's never a great time to use it. The strong smell alone makes me not ever want to repurchase this hand cream, which is too bad because as a moisturizer it is nicely hydrating, easy to absorb and long-lasting.
The shea butter, sweet almond oil and macadamia oil ingredients really soothe my wrinkled and dry hands, especially in cold weather and the formulation doesn't leave me with obviously greasy prints. I'm not sure why marshmallow is touted as an ingredient on the front of the tube (applying candy to your hands makes zero sense) but I suppose it fits with Soap & Glory's girly style.
It's too bad the smell is such a deal-breaker for me. In order not to waste $ I'm making myself slowly use this product up, but once it's gone, I'll gleefully toss the empty tube away.
Summary
- Packaging: 4/5 (hygienic; easy to control flow; opaque)
- Smell: 2/5 (strong and perfumey; lingering)
- Performance: 4/5 (good moisture; fast absorption; non-greasy)
- Value/Price: 4/5 ($10-15 depending on sales for 125 ml)
- Recommend? Ehh.. (if you have no sense of smell)
- Repurchase? No (I'll be happy to never smell this again)
